The 7-minute film "Body Shape" portrays the encounter between the two friends Tim & Aline within a performative act of challenging each other’s body habits.
In her book "Ver-Kleiden", Barbara Vinken points out how gender is produced, performed, and presented within daily life appearances. But how does it feel to turn the roles around?
In the video work, gestures visualize a common gender habitus that loses its reference to biological sex.
Between commanding and being commanded, observing, and being observed, the shared video camera becomes an object of power through directing the other’s appearance, as well as losing control over it. Turning these narratives around makes visible:
We are all cross-dressers.
